My First Morning in Jamaica

Standard

It’s not Shakespeare but it’s mine and I’ve done it. Thirty poems in thirty days. I can’t believe I really wrote a poem every day.

The sun seemed brighter in the sky
On my first morning in Jamaica
When I went to the pier with my brother
The oldest child in my family

On my first morning in Jamaica
I watched the boys dive in the water
With the oldest child in my family
And saw men working on the docks

I watched the boys dive in the water
As the tourists tossed coins in the water
And saw men working on the docks
With a real sailing ship nearby

The tourists tossed coins in the water
Water clear enough to see the bottom
And a real sailing ship was nearby
On that morning as I watched the boys dive

The water was clear enough to see the bottom
When I went to the pier with my brother
On that morning as I watched the boys dive
When the sun seemed brighter in the sky

Busqueda

Standard

I wanted to try a different rhyme scheme so this is the one that came to mind.

On the road
With a heavy load
Trying to find my way
Got a map
On my lap
Ain’t got no time to stray

Searching for
That place of lore
A place I know is real
Land, sea, or sky
No place too high
Or distant, or concealed

I’ll get there yet
This you can bet
I won’t give up the quest
Follow the guide
Do what’s inside
‘Cause this hunt is no jest

When searching’s done
The quest now won
I’ll finally be at peace
And say to all
Both big and small
We’re only here on lease

Starstrike.

Standard

Once again this poem is made up of the titles of ten books I have in my library.

Beyond the gate
The Babies of Babylon
Fight Private Wars
For Eternity Row
While the Armies of Daylight
Broach The River of Blue Fire
To reach The Dreaming Void
Where the Faith of the Fallen
Gives Maximum Light
Starstrike!

Timeless Love

Standard

I was searching types of poetry to write and the line from a poem sparked this line of thinking. What if we really can be re-incarnated; would the same two people fall in love in every time period?

I think I used to love you long ago
In days gone by when traveling was slow
And time would take it’s time to pass the day
And lovers when they loved, would love and stay

We loved again when speed was more the rage
One did what must be done to earn a wage
And love took on a secondary role
We lost sight love itself was once the goal

Then came the times when love was just a game
When counting up your lovers gave one fame
But you and I remained a duo crew
Your only need was me and mine was you

Now virtual reality’s the way
We Twitter, Post and text our time away
Yet somehow I found you and you found me
Because through time our love’s fated to be

Oh the Pain.

Standard

I wrote this after I found out I had an infection in my nose and couldn’t think of anything but the pain of the swelling.

Lots of pain with nothing to gain
Hurts so bad I’m dizzy
Feels so bad worst pain I’ve had
If only I wasn’t so busy

My teeth, they hurt my head hurts too
I swear this is no jest
As soon as my babies go back home
I’m going to get some rest

Beloved

Standard

Okay, I finally gave in and wrote an anagram. The prompt suggested using a word from a favorite poem but I used the name of a favorite book of prose.

Take the moon and take the sun
Hanging in the sky like two beacons
Impressive in their immensity
Similarly watchful yet different in view
Iconic symbols of love and desire
Smiling down on us from their heavenly perch
Mystically drawing our complete focus of
Yearning. I yearn for you, dear one
Beholden in my appreciative eye
Eternal love I swear to you
Luz de mis ojos, amor de mi vida
Only you hold the key to my desire
Voice the cravings of my heart
Everlasting fire burning bright
Dazzling as do those two opposing eyes
